Just Ride

This felt to be one of those days in which I floated through the day, influenced by the combination of clouds, grey, headwinds, and my entitled desire to experience more sun. Upon the day’s end, as I ate another ramen dinner at Sunset State Beach [no sunset, unfortunately], I couldn’t think of many moments in which I slowed down enough to breathe and appreciate. One of those days, I guess.

Only one moment stands out:

In the small city of Santa Cruz, a brief conversation with a local ventured toward talk of the dreary late-summer weather. His conclusion on the clouds and grey, accompanied by a listless shrug, resembled the words of more than one other stranger I’ve encountered in recent days: “Been grey for about a week. Climate change, man. Other places been getting more heat waves and wildfires. We’re getting more of this.” He assured me the sun would become more prominent further south. I assured him I was still loving the scenery of the day.

Somewhere in between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. Almost exclusively this sort of scenery along this sixty-kilometres-or-so section. Though I wasn’t quite fully present on this day, still, I stopped here for a moment to appreciate the view. Another beauty scene.
